It’s already September, and for the Sun Trip it is about time to think ahead about 2021.
2020 will finish with many uncertainties. Nevertheless, we must continue hoping for a brighter future and believing in the achievement of many future projects. The Sun Trip 2021 is one of them.
As announced last April, the second edition of the Sun Trip Lyon-Canton had to be postponed to 2021. Recent developments in the past few months have confirmed that this was the only possible option.
What should we think of the “Covid19” problem at this point of time? Can the situation get any better by summer 2021, on the scale of two continents and in all 25 countries potentially crossed between Lyon and Canton? Will the virus still be circulating? Will borders be reopened everywhere? Will the movement of travellers be unhindered and without quarantine? Will the visa regime be back to normal, back to the way it was before the virus? Will it still be possible to go from one continent to another by bike?
The Sun Trip team does not have any of these answers and on a global scale no one seems to be able to make any firm announcements.
The challenge is huge. Whatever the circumstances, at this stage, the Lyon-Canton 2021 project remains our priority. It is the goal for which each one of us should get motivated and prepared for, while keeping an attentive eye on the evolution of the global health situation.
At the same time, in order to be able to maintain the Sun Trip 2021 no matter what, we have decided to put together an alternative route for the 2021 edition.
In case China is still thought to be a too risky destination, the 4th edition of the The Sun Trip adventure would take place on other routes. We have already announced to the sixty participants to date, that we were reflecting on the subject and that this alternative route would certainly be in Europe.
Imagined over a distance of 8,000 to 10,000 km, this “Sun Trip Europe” would be much more than a simple “back-up plan”. It would be the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful natural sites of our continent. It would be the occasion for an international promotion of the solar bike across fifteen countries. It would be an opportunity to make of Europe an adventure !
More details will follow in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we would like to remind you that registrations for The Sun Trip 2021 are still possible, through the form designed for the Lyon-Canton project.
