DAY 50 <-> DAY 48
This is the story of an adventurer who didn’t want to take part in the race, but who nevertheless finished in the top 10 of the Sun Trip solar challenge, i.e. those who followed the entire route and recharged their batteries solely on solar energy.
“I had set myself the target of doing 150km a day”, a commitment that Vincent kept, finishing in 49 days and 6 hours. If you take out the break in Taroudant (which was a little longer for him), the total is good and the adventurer has every reason to be proud of his achievement!
This final stage took him from Valence to Savoie, with rain and then sunshine as he approached Chambéry. “I rode really frugally all day to avoid running out of fuel before the finish”, he said as he filled in his fuel consumption table for the day, with 2.94 Wh/km for this day with little sunshine. “My maximum was 265 km between Spain and Portugal, I didn’t think I could ride that much, it’s crazy”.
10th in the solar challenge, 11th overall (Bertrand Goudenhooft having finished ahead of him, but with a recharge that wasn’t 100% solar), Vincent kept to his deadlines perfectly on this adventure. He lived up to his reputation as an adventurer, and had a great time for almost 50 days, riding through every type of weather imaginable.
“I have immense memories of the Pyrenees under the snow, but also of the desert part of Morocco under a thick cloud of sand, with the heat and the wind! Morocco was a real shock, beautiful but also very noisy and tiring. I started to feel a bit like I was on holiday when I got back to Spain! I’m going to have time to digest everything I’ve experienced on this adventure. In any case, thanks to Sun Trip for giving me the opportunity to experience it. You have to experience something like this at least once in your life! ”
That’s a conclusion that suits us perfectly. Well done Vincent.
