DAY 33 <-> DAY 31
The two leading teams are now in France, and will have to make do with complicated weather conditions as far as Chambéry. The Germans could arrive this evening, or later tomorrow morning. When they arrive in the next few hours, they will be averaging around 2010/220 km per day, which is quite a performance for the two teams vying for 3rd place. Well done and thanks for the show!
And thanks to Géry & Baudouin for this video made on the last day in Spain.
In Spain, the weather is expected to be more clement, and in the next few days we should see Vivien Dettwiler attempt to climb back up the order to take 5th place from his comrades 250 km ahead of him. It’s not impossible, but it’s not a foregone conclusion, suspense…
In Morocco, Jean-Louis, Vincent L and Herman headed north over the Atlas Mountains. Jean-Louis took the best photo of the day as he passed through the Todra Gorges (which run parallel to the Dades Gorges). Vincent and Herman had the pleasure of meeting up at the Boulmane checkpoint, but their itineraries diverged as Herman took to the mountains.
The Czechs Michael and Jiri continued their shortcut strategy by cutting through Ouarzazate, clearly enjoying themselves. Finally, young Belgian Miguel Letor has passed Casablanca. He’s been keeping up a good pace since his restart and his beacon will be re-coloured today to encourage him to complete the whole route. Stay tuned!
