The bike is a recumbent steel bike from Nazca: the Gaucho. A single wheel Aevon STD100 aluminum trailer is hitched up to transport the luggage. The front fork receives a Crystalyte direct drive motor while the pedaling power goes to the rear wheel via a Rolhoff hub. The solar roof carries 220Wp of solar panels and the trailer 240Wp. The idea that guided this design was to distribute the forces as much as possible between the different components to increase their reliability. Keeping the three wheels on a line should help me avoid potholes and should allow me to maintain reasonable aerodynamics.

His Vision of the Sun Trip

A clever mix of technical challenge, sport and travel can only be irresistible for me. I see the Sun Trip as a unique opportunity to discover the world at a human speed. To be completely honest after working a year in China a few years ago, being able to go back there by bike has a special flavor.
