Although the Stelvio Pass was one of the checkpoints on the Sun Trip Europe 2021, this was the first time we had organized a stage there! A major challenge for our participants, and the summit of this 2023 adventure, at an altitude of 2758m.
This stage 3, scheduled over 2 days and 380 km, began on the shores of Lake Orta, then moved on to Lake Lugano and the famous Lake Como, which some riders crossed by ferry. At the time, Stéphane Bujadoux was wearing the yellow jersey and Daniele Gonano the blue (by default, as the second).
Thanks to the generally favourable weather conditions, almost the entire group reached the summit by late afternoon, and the stopover hotel by 9pm.
In the solar challenge standings: Stéphane Bujadoux remains in the lead, but the gap is only 20 points with Daniele Gonano. Attilio Mastrota has more points, but was dropped from the challenge due to a mains charge on his batteries.
Last but not least, Lionel Goddard, Jean-Claude Trouche, France et Bruno, Christiane et Hervé, Chloé George, Alain Ietter and Pascal Viennot were unable to reach the Stelvio stage on the evening of June 22. We hope to see them again on Garmish or Andermatt.
Good luck.
