The story happens again ! This time, in Valencia (France) not far from the finish line, Herman damaged his bike in several places. No injury, but he has to leave it for repairs for one or two weeks.
He decides not to give up the race and takes the train today to Belgium, to come back later to Valencia when the bike is repaired.
He will then cross the city of Lyon to mark the end of his race, before returning home for good.
What determination! He has all the congratulations of the jury for his choice not to give up.
He adds the following funny story:
“Last night, after much searching, I couldn’t find a place to sleep in hotels or campgrounds, so I found my place vagabond-style, in a playground with a suspiciously green lawn. At 2:30 this morning, I managed to get around the sprinklers by putting my satchel over them. ”

A perilous start to his second Sun Trip, with a collision with a car on 17 June at 12:30. “I hadn’t seen any lights, and while I was crossing, everyone started driving, so I threw myself in the opposite direction and looked at the car. Luckily I have a good guardian angel. ”
His solar panel was damaged, but he chose to stay the course.
On the 8th day, Herman’s bike was stolen during the night in Goldap in northern Poland.
At 11am, the local police found his bike with some damage and the beacon missing.
With the help of Sophie and Jeremie from our image team who were nearby, they were able to go and see him and give him a new GPS.
Just as quickly recovered with some repairs, Herman set off again to continue his journey!
What a journey for the Belgian, who despite all these circumstances continues the adventure and heads straight for the first checkpoint in Riga
