The 2015 Sun Trip champion is putting up a fight! Bernard Cauquil (Team Aktid) is almost able to follow the pace of the 3 fastest velomobiles. He is in the wheel of Patrick Tschigg and as the crow flies there were (on June 18 9.pm) 125 km between him and the leader (145 km by road). He regularly loses time but nothing irreparable.
“It’s a very fast pace! The performances of the velomobiles on roads like the ones we ride on are as I imagined. I take my hat off to the riders who must suffer enormously from the heat”, then he warns “it’s a foretaste of the Iberian Peninsula…”!
In any case, he waits patiently to arrive on more bad roads, where he should be able to get an advantage. “In the meantime, I am enjoying the trip”, he says.
About Raf Van Hulle, still stopped at the starting point, Bernard is very careful: “Raf is Raf… It would be a mistake to underestimate the capacities of this extraordinary competitor”.
The adventure has only just begun!
